Rural Action, nestled in the foothills of Appalachian Ohio, has been championing locally-based, sustainable, and inclusive development since its establishment in 1991. Committed to building resilient rural Appalachian communities, their mission is to create a more just economy by developing the region's assets in environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable ways. Rural Action focuses on vital sectors such as food and agriculture, forestry, zero waste and recycling, environmental education, watershed restoration, and energy.

Additionally, they have recently expanded their portfolio to include social enterprise development and local tourism. By helping small communities achieve monumental goals, supporting local businesses and job growth, restoring the environment, and cultivating the next generation of leaders, Rural Action envisions a region with clean streams, healthy forests, thriving family farms, and vibrant communities. Guided by strong values of a healthy natural environment, inclusive local economies, and the ideas and voices of all people, Rural Action collaborates with a network of over 600 members and actively serves 59 Ohio counties.
