RurAL CAP, short for Rural Alaska Community Action Program, Inc., is a private, statewide nonprofit organization established in 1965. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for low-income individuals and families in Alaska. With a 24-member Board of Directors, we are one of the largest and most diverse nonprofit organizations in the state, representing every region.

At RurAL CAP, we value inclusivity and respect for all. We believe in preserving Alaskan cultural heritage and their connection to the land, while also protecting their economic and human potential. Our programs focus on early education, housing, and health and well-being, aiming to address the root causes of poverty.

In the education sector, we offer programs like the Child Development Center, Head Start, Early Head Start, and Parents as Teachers (PAT). Our housing initiatives include services for the homeless, homeownership, and home improvement, supporting Alaskans facing financial challenges or living with physical and mental health conditions. When it comes to health and well-being, we tackle locally identified issues through community wellness, youth development, tribal justice, and victim service initiatives.

We also provide training and technical assistance programs across the state.
