Description
The S. C. Sea Grant Consortium is a state agency established in 1978 to manage the NOAA National Sea Grant College Program for South Carolina. Their integrated research, education, and extension programs aim to generate and apply science-based information on coastal and marine issues.
The Consortium focuses on numerous areas including healthy coastal ecosystems, sustainable coastal development and economy, weather and climate resilience, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, and scientific literacy and workforce development. The Consortium values trust, honesty, and respect in their professional interactions, as well as integrity and objectivity in their program activities. They prioritize partnerships and teamwork to meet the increasing demands for their products and services. Member institutions of the Consortium include Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Francis Marion University, Medical University of South Carolina, S. C. Department of Natural Resources, S. C.
State University, The Citadel, and the University of South Carolina. Together, they collaborate on research and outreach efforts to improve the social and economic well-being of coastal residents and promote the optimal use and conservation of marine and coastal natural resources. As part of the South Atlantic Sea Grant Region, the Consortium also partners with other Sea Grant programs to implement regional research and outreach programs. They actively contribute to the development and implementation of legislation to support their endeavors, and their work is guided by their core focus areas.
