, Second Servings of Houston is dedicated to fighting hunger and ending food waste. Founded by Barbara Bronstein in 2015, Second Servings was born out of a desire to address the excessive amount of food being wasted at banquets and events. Barbara discovered that the local food bank did not accept prepared food donations, so she connected a soup kitchen with banquet venues to rescue their surplus food.

Realizing the need for a more scalable solution, Barbara researched and connected with food rescue organizations across the country. Armed with best practices, she founded Second Servings to rescue perfectly edible surplus food and deliver it to local nonprofits at no cost. Since its inception, Second Servings has rescued over 10,000,000 pounds of food valued at approximately $70,000,000+.

With the support of over 400 food donors, Second Servings has delivered this food to 140 local nonprofits, providing much-needed nourishment to those facing food insecurity in Houston. Second Servings believes that the issue is not a food shortage, but rather a food distribution problem.
