About
Description
Second Start is a renowned brand that empowers students with special needs, including those with autism and Asperger's syndrome. Established in 1974, Second Start initially provided a tutorial and diagnostic clinic for children with severe disabilities. In 1976, they expanded their offerings to include special needs education for grades 1-12 at Pine Hill School.
This multidisciplinary program integrates academic and therapeutic approaches to support the holistic development of learning-disabled and emotionally challenged children. Recognizing the need for adult education, Second Start introduced classes for adults in 1988. In the early 1990s, they extended their services to at-risk children through the Community Development Department.
Second Start's commitment to inclusive education led to the establishment of Advent Academy in 2002, a charter school providing education to high school students with autism and Asperger's syndrome who are in residential recovery programs. In 2003, they launched the Newton Learning Center, specifically designed for students with Asperger's syndrome and high-functioning autism. Building on their success, Second Start expanded their impact by founding Newton Learning Center Northern Nevada in 2007.
Second Start's comprehensive programs and specialized approach have positively transformed the lives of countless students with autism and Asperger's syndrome
