About

Description

Summit Educational Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the academic excellence and character development of economically disadvantaged inner-city Milwaukee students. Their mission is to complement the formal education system by implementing the A. V.

I. P Strategy, which stands for Academic skills, Virtues, Individual attention, and Parent empowerment. Summit offers a range of programs to achieve their mission.

They provide after-school tutoring and mentoring, where each student is matched with a trained volunteer. Additionally, college students serve as team leaders in their 8-week summer program. Summit also conducts monthly seminars and meetings focused on empowering parents to fulfill their important role as the primary educators of their children.

The need for Summit's services is evident in the demographics they serve. Household incomes of students are less than half the national average, and Milwaukee high school graduation rates are at a concerning 56%. Academic proficiency levels in Math and Reading are 20-30% below the state average.

Inspired by the teachings of the Catholic Church, Summit was founded in 1990 by a group of professionals passionate about improving the lives of inner-city students. They aim to address the two main causes of the high dropout rates: the lack of close connections with caring adults and an absence of firm moral values. Through their One-On-One tutoring and mentoring program, Summit fosters relationships between dedicated mentors, parents, and children, encouraging intellectual, cultural, and moral growth.

By joining Summit, you can become a volunteer mentor or sponsor, making a positive impact on the lives of Milwaukee's youth. Stay updated with Summit's latest news, volunteer opportunities, and events by joining their email list and become part of the solution to improve education and character development in inner-city Milwaukee
