About

Description

Taos Pueblo is a brand that represents over 1,000 years of tradition and cultural heritage. As one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the USA, Taos Pueblo offers visitors a unique and immersive experience. Made entirely of adobe, the Pueblo showcases the architectural and construction techniques of the past.

The five-story buildings are supported by large timbers and covered in packed dirt, while the interior walls are coated with white earth washes for a clean and bright ambiance. Approximately 150 people live within the Pueblo full time, with over 1900 Taos Indians residing on Taos Pueblo lands. The Pueblo also houses the San Geronimo Chapel, which was rebuilt in 1850 after being destroyed in the War with Mexico.

Taos Pueblo is governed by a tribal council and maintains its ancient religious practices alongside Catholicism. In addition to its rich history and cultural significance, Taos Pueblo offers visitors the chance to purchase unique handmade crafts and artworks. Local artisans create mica-flecked pottery, silver jewelry, and traditional items like moccasins, boots, and drums.

The Pueblo's trademark is the natural look, preserving the materials' appearance without additional coloration. While modern conveniences like electricity and running water are not allowed within the Pueblo walls due to traditional practices, visitors can still enjoy a rewarding adventure exploring this remarkable historic site. Taos Pueblo is open to visitors daily from 8 am to 4:30 pm, providing an opportunity to learn about and appreciate the ancient traditions and vibrant culture of the Taos people
