The Transformative In-Prison Workgroup (TPW) is committed to supporting meaningful programming for incarcerated individuals in California. Our belief in the inherent worth and dignity of incarcerated individuals is at the core of our mission, as we advocate for their access to healing and transformative programs. As a statewide collective voice, TPW brings together individuals and organizations who believe in the power of in-prison programs.

By breaking isolation, sharing ideas, and building political power, we aim to increase access to transformative and healing in-prison programs, as well as sustainable funding. We also strive to create a learning community to share best practices and generate a new, humanizing public narrative about the importance of in-prison programs. Our collective efforts are geared towards enabling individuals who have been incarcerated to provide programs, conduct research on the benefits of in-prison programs, and create positive change in the California correctional system.
