Description

Toyon HSU is the annual literary magazine of Humboldt State University's English department. Since its establishment in 1954, this student-run publication has been dedicated to showcasing the creative work of both established and emerging writers and artists from Humboldt County and around the world. Toyon is a multilingual journal that accepts submissions in both English and Spanish, as well as translations.

It is committed to featuring diverse voices and welcomes new talents in various languages. All submissions go through a blind review process, and there are no reading fees. Furthermore, Toyon introduced a new category in 2016 that focuses on promoting environmental justice, allowing submissions that advocate for this cause.

The magazine not only encourages creative writing and art-making in Humboldt County but also offers hands-on learning opportunities in literary publishing for Humboldt State University students. By joining the Toyon Staff, students gain invaluable experience in the editorial and production process, as well as an understanding of aesthetic theory and publishing practices. If you're passionate about literature and want to support this vibrant literary community, Toyon HSU offers a way to get involved
