UNICEF StartUp Lab is an impactful accelerator programme dedicated to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for children and young people. Led by UNICEF in Ghana and supported by KOICA, the programme is implemented by MEST Africa. The StartUp Lab focuses on enhancing the business, technological, and communication skills of participating entrepreneurs while advising them on the product-problem fit of their social impact, tech-driven solutions. Through a comprehensive six-month curriculum, which includes intensive bootcamps in Accra called Work Weeks, as well as incubation and mentorship at partner hubs, UNICEF StartUp Lab provides startups with a unique integration of business incubation and wide-reaching technical expertise in the social sector.

Participants have the opportunity to interact with UNICEF and KOICA programme experts, learn about available supporting tools from United Nations agencies, and gain access to extensive networks that can support their work. The programme offers numerous benefits, including guaranteed funding, prototyping funding, expert consultations, and access to UNICEF and KOICA experts. Startups also receive tech perks such as AWS credits and developer support. The UNICEF StartUp Lab is open to startups that have been operational for at least one year, are registered businesses in Ghana with technology as the core enabler, and have a business model with a social impact that addresses at least one of the SDGs.
