The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions is dedicated to making Kaiser Permanente the premier provider of healthcare in the United States. Founded in the early 1990s, the Coalition was formed in response to deteriorating labor relations and increasing competition within the industry. Rather than launching a corporate campaign, the Coalition presented Kaiser Permanente with a bold idea: partnership.

This led to the creation of the Kaiser Permanente Labor Management Partnership in 1997. Unlike traditional union-employer arrangements, the Labor Management Partnership integrates labor into decision-making at all levels of the organization. This unique approach has made the Coalition a national model for labor-management collaboration.

Over the years, the Coalition has achieved significant advancements in patient care outcomes and workplace environments through innovative agreements with Kaiser Permanente. The Coalition's accomplishments include industry-leading wages and benefits, as well as initiatives focused on employment and income security, unit-based teams, education and career development, workforce wellness, and union growth. With over 85,000 KP employees represented by Coalition local unions, the Partnership continues to transform the healthcare industry by delivering affordable, high-quality care
