Virginia Boys State of The American Legion is a highly respected educational program that offers young men the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in government. This leadership action program is designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government and to emphasize the importance of active participation in our democratic society. During the week-long program, participants are immersed in a variety of activities such as legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, and recreational programs.

The highlight of Boys State is the political process, where delegates create and operate their own political parties to develop a platform and philosophy. They also have the chance to run for various offices at the local, county, and state levels. Selected delegates even have the opportunity to represent Virginia at Boys Nation in Washington, D.

C., where they serve as senators and participate in the political process on a national level.
