The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) is a trusted and innovative leader in global forensic medicine and science. Established in 1988 after a dedicated campaign, VIFM is committed to providing reliable forensic services of the highest quality to the Victorian justice system and community. With over 180 staff members, including original members who have been with the institute since its inception, VIFM has grown into a larger and more complex organization.

The institute offers a wide range of services, including coronial system support, medico-legal death investigation, forensic pathology, forensic technical services, human identification services, clinical forensic medicine, forensic imaging, forensic sciences, toxicology services, molecular biology, and histology. VIFM also engages in international work, with programs and support for global forensic medicine.
