Wāhine Connect is a remarkable programme dedicated to supporting women in the New Zealand health sector. As a registered charity, their goal is to create communities of women in health, providing both peer support in personal and professional lives. They offer a national mentoring network that connects women and hosts webinars and events.

This community-funded network was born out of the need identified on the NZ Women in Medicine Facebook page, making it a truly community-developed and driven project. The mentors are individuals who have volunteered or were recruited through nominations, and the questionnaires were piloted by willing women. The resources and contract were compiled by the community as well.

Women in the health sector face unique challenges such as gender discrimination, gender pay gap, and lack of representation in leadership positions. Wāhine Connect aims to bridge these gaps by fostering mentor-mentee relationships among women in health. The programme is open to all women working in the health sector, ensuring equitable representation and encouraging collaboration across disciplines.

Unfortunately, Wāhine Connect does not provide life coaching, counseling, supervision, or job-finding services. However, their mentors, all fantastic volunteers, are ready to share their insights and experiences to support others.
