Description
Worcester Roots is a collective of youth and adult organizers working to create opportunities for economic, social, and environmental justice in Worcester, MA. Established in 2001 and incorporated in 2003, our organization aims to build neighborhoods that are safe for living, working, and playing by implementing co-operatively run and green initiatives. At Worcester Roots, we are committed to addressing environmental justice concerns, particularly focusing on lead in the soil.
In 2008, we expanded our efforts to include economic justice, with a specific interest in supporting worker co-operatives and promoting the development of green jobs within our city. Our projects include the Worcester Co-op Academy, Healing Garden Institute, Cooperation Worcester, and Youth Programming. In the past, we have successfully carried out programs such as Toxic Soil Busters, Youth In Charge, and Worcester Energy Barnraisers.
Currently, we are actively involved in various coalitions such as the U. S. Federation of Worker Co-ops and the Worcester Youth Jobs Coalition.
