About

Description

York County Literacy Council (YCLC) is a non-profit, educational, and human service organization dedicated to advancing adult and family literacy in York County. As a 501(c)(3) organization, YCLC provides free classes and services to residents regardless of race, creed, color, gender, national origin, or socio-economic status. Their mission is to teach literacy skills in English, empowering adults to successfully engage in the home, workplace, and community.

YCLC has a rich history that dates back to the 1970s when a group of passionate individuals organized a tutoring program to combat illiteracy. Over the years, the program grew and expanded, eventually becoming the York County Literacy Council in 1976. Today, YCLC serves over 1,000 students in York County.

Their programs include adult reading, ESL, workplace training, and the Next Step program. YCLC also offers various resources for those looking to support their cause, such as becoming a tutor, joining YCLC committees, or making a donation. By providing confidential and free services, YCLC strives to empower individuals and families with literacy skills that will positively impact their lives and communities.
