The 1199SEIU Home Care Industry Education Fund supports home care workers in building careers, advancing their education, and improving care for clients. Its mission is to help workers meet the changing and emerging needs of the home care industry while fostering growth and empowerment in the workplace. Serving a community of more than 20,000 members, the Fund offers academic and workplace learning opportunities designed to strengthen both individual careers and the broader industry.
Programs include pre-college education to help members develop foundational skills for vocational or college study, tuition assistance for workers pursuing further education and new healthcare careers, and workplace skills training to build on workers’ experience and enhance job satisfaction and care quality. The Basil & Portia Paterson Home Care Workers Scholarship Fund provides additional support for eligible workers’ educational goals. Success stories highlight members who have pursued college degrees, earned diplomas, strengthened their caregiving skills, and advanced their professional prospects. Donations help fund these opportunities and support improvements in the healthcare services home care workers provide.
