Fietselfstedentocht

Stichting De Friese Elfsteden Rijwieltocht is the organization behind the Fietselfstedentocht, a long-running cycling event in Friesland, the Netherlands. First organized in 1912, the annual tour combines sporting challenge with regional culture, folklore, and tradition. Held on Whit Monday, it takes riders on a 235-kilometre route through the province’s eleven historic cities, starting and finishing in Bolsward.

Around 15,000 participants typically take part, setting off in organized groups between 5:00 and 8:00 a. m. Riders collect stamps at checkpoints along the route and must complete the final finish control in Bolsward by midnight.

The foundation manages event information and registration, including pre-registration, open registration, participant group arrangements, and transfer of stamp cards. It also provides practical guidance on overnight stays, camping, parking, sports nutrition, and frequently asked questions. Other activities and resources include the Mini Elfstedentocht, event photography, cycling certificates and an honors gallery recognizing repeat participants, as well as opportunities to volunteer.

The organization is based in Bolsward and supports the event through its board, volunteers, and assistance services
