The 128CM Memorial Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in memory of people whose lives were lost in a plane accident in Butte, Montana, on March 22, 2009. Its name, pronounced β1-2-8-Charlie-Mike,β comes from the aircraftβs tail number. The foundation supports education by helping schools and students through its Principal Scholarship Award, which enables principals to recognize outstanding students with strong academic potential and financial need.
The foundation also hosts the annual 128CM Memorial Student Golf Tournament in Death Valley, California. School Flight teams pair a student with a faculty or staff member or alumnus, and tournament prizes are allocated to participating schools. Teams that do not place among the top three also receive funds for their school. Donors can participate in a separate flight by sponsoring the event, and a lunch-only option is available. The foundation reports that it has given more than $1 million and benefited over 300 students and schools. It shares event information, results, schedules, sponsorship opportunities, and photos through its website.
