13 Mile Rods is a New Zealand maker of handcrafted split cane fly rods for anglers fishing the rivers and lakes of New Zealand and Australia. Based in Lyttelton, Christchurch, the business is led by Rob Morwood, a rod maker with more than 10 years of experience building split cane rods. Each rod is made by hand, from tempering and shaping bamboo to finishing the handle, reel seat, silk wraps, rod sock and presentation tube.
Customers can work with Rob to choose details and develop a rod suited to their experience and fishing preferences. The range includes spey and two-handed designs, from 10-foot switch rods for smaller and medium rivers to 12-foot rods configured for Skagit and Scandi-style fishing. These rods are designed for varied water and presentations, including traditional wet-fly fishing.
13 Mile Rods invites both new and experienced fly fishers to consider a cane rod as a personal piece of sporting equipment or a special gift.
