About 13th Forward
**13th Forward**
13th Forward is a legislative coalition dedicated to abolishing modern-day slavery and advocating for the rights of incarcerated individuals in New York State. Formed in 2019 by Worth Rises and the Legal Aid Society, the coalition brings together advocates, grassroots organizations, and affected communities to dismantle the exploitative prison labor system. They are currently spearheading initiatives like the No Slavery in NY Act and the Fairness and Opportunity for Incarcerated Workers Act, aimed at ending forced labor practices and ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and job training programs for those incarcerated.
The 13th Forward coalition is a collective effort involving organizations such as Citizen Action of New York and the New York Civil Liberties Union. Their mission includes amending the state constitution to eliminate the prison labor exception, protecting workers' rights, and establishing avenues for legal recourse against violations. By pushing for meaningful reforms, 13th Forward seeks to create a more just New York, where dignity and respect are afforded to all individuals, regardless of their circumstances.
