14 Squadron, historically rooted in the Royal Flying Corps, was formed on February 3, 1915, in Shoreham under Captain Alexander Ross-Hume. Initially operational with a mix of aircraft, the Squadron was pivotal during World War I, focusing on air support in the Middle Eastern theatre, particularly during the Palestine campaign.
