1776 Unites is a movement and educational project of the Woodson Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1981 by Robert L. Woodson, Sr. The initiative celebrates America’s history and founding while promoting personal agency, uplift, and transformation. Its work presents a shared understanding of the past that acknowledges difficult truths and highlights stories of achievement, resilience, and hope.
A central offering is its supplementary Black History and Excellence curriculum for educators, featuring lessons on figures and events such as the integrated Marblehead Regiment and Crispus Attucks. The project also shares videos and educational resources about lesser-known Black American heroes, including stories connected to the American Revolution and the nation’s 250th anniversary. Its website publishes essays, updates, and commentary from 1776 Unites scholars and contributors on education, history, community, and American life.
Visitors can explore the curriculum, read featured articles, and learn about the project’s founder and work. The organization also offers books by Bob Woodson, including Red, White, and Black and A Pathway to American Renewal, and invites individual and corporate donations to support its mission.
