The 1887 Project is a public charity established in 2021 by volunteers known as Foxburg Golf Preservation, Inc. Its mission is to restore and preserve Foxburg Country Club, recognized as the oldest golf course in continuous operation in the United States, while protecting its historic, recreational, economic, health, social, and environmental value. The course, whose history reaches back to 1887, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007 and houses artifacts from the American Golf Museum.
Working with golf course architect and historian Ron Forse, the project is developing a master plan to renew the course’s Victorian character and improve its long-term sustainability. Its fundraising priorities include restoring the water supply, upgrading irrigation, renovating playing surfaces, and modernizing maintenance equipment and facilities. The organization also seeks to establish a $2 million endowment for ongoing course care and programs benefiting youth, people with special needs, and disabled veterans.
Through donations and community participation, the 1887 Project aims to preserve this historic golfing experience for future generations
