Stichting Comité 4 en 5 mei Borne is a local organisation dedicated to remembrance, freedom and understanding the history of the Second World War. It encourages people to learn from the experiences of those who lived through the conflict, preserve their stories and reflect on how exclusion and injustice can grow when people remain silent. The organisation’s website shares information about commemorations, local history and places of remembrance in and around Borne.
These include monuments, Stolpersteine, the Jewish cemetery, memorial sites and stories about veterans and wartime events. Its activities and resources also cover Dodenherdenking on 4 May, Liberation Day on 5 May, the freedom flag, and local initiatives marking 80 years of freedom. The committee organises educational experiences, including a coach excursion from Borne to the National Field of Honour in Loenen, with a guided tour and lunch.
Through public events, historical information and remembrance projects, Stichting Comité 4 en 5 mei Borne seeks to connect local heritage with a broader message: recognise early signs of dehumanisation and stand up for others to help protect freedom
