4evergreen is an alliance of over 100 manufacturers, designers, brand owners, researchers, and recyclers who are committed to creating a climate-neutral society by enhancing the circularity and sustainability of fibre-based packaging. With fibre-based packaging, such as paper cups and cardboard boxes, representing around 38% of all packaging in Europe, the alliance focuses on packaging types used for household, out-of-home, and on-the-go consumption with lower circularity performance. Innovation lies at the core of this alliance as members work together to accelerate the development of new technologies that address sorting and recycling challenges.

4evergreen has set four targets to achieve by 2025 on their path to a 90% recycling rate for fibre-based packaging by 2030. These targets include the recognition and adoption of their recyclability evaluation protocol and circularity design guidelines by the industry, availability of separate collection streams for all fibre-based packaging types, sorting of collected paper according to specified standards, and achieving 100% recycling of collected fibre-based packaging. To achieve these targets, the alliance operates through technical workstreams focused on recyclability evaluation, circularity design guidelines, collection and sorting best practices, and innovation.
