About 4R Certified
4R Nutrient Stewardship Certification Program is a proactive and responsible commitment that aims to improve long-term water quality. This program is designed to encourage agricultural retailers, service providers, and other certified professionals to adopt best practices known as the 4Rs. The 4Rs stand for using the Right Source of Nutrients at the Right Rate and Right Time in the Right Place.
By implementing this science-based framework for plant nutrition management, the program supports sustained crop production while considering the unique needs of individual farms. Originally launched in March 2014 to address water quality concerns in Lake Erie, the 4R Program has since expanded to cover the entire state of Ohio in 2017 and international territories in 2019. The program provides guidelines, audit processes, and certifications to ensure that participants adhere to environmentally friendly practices.
