Hachioji Hitotsubo Bread Festival is a community-focused bread event organized by the Hachioji Hitotsubo Bread Festival Executive Committee in Hachioji, Tokyo. Launched in May 2017, it takes place in “Hachichare,” a compact one-tsubo (roughly one small unit of floor space) challenge-shop venue near Hachioji Station. The festival brings local bakeries and residents together through a distinctive six-day format: one bakery sells its products each day, giving visitors a different shop to discover throughout the event.

Participating businesses are often based in Hachioji, though bakeries from outside the city and event-only vendors may also take part. Sales run from 10 a. m.

until the day’s bread sells out, and the available products vary by vendor. The organizers also support community welfare: sponsorship funds help purchase bread for donation through food-bank organizations to children’s cafeterias, while part of festival sales is donated to the Hachioji Council of Social Welfare.
