The Asian American Health Initiative (AAHI) is part of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services in Maryland. Its mission is to improve the health and wellness of Asian American communities in Montgomery County through equity, community engagement, and data-driven approaches. AAHI offers programs and resources addressing mental health, senior wellness, and access to healthcare in community members’ languages.
Its Patient Navigator Program helps people connect with care, while health education and outreach activities provide information and support. AAHI also conducts workshops and shares resources to promote seniors’ safety and well-being, and its mental health work includes trainings and efforts to reduce stigma. Through the Asian American Center of Excellence, the initiative helps community organizations build their capacity to serve residents.
AAHI provides grants for organizations supporting Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, maintains a resource library, and can help residents connect with County services. Community members can also get involved through internships, health promotion opportunities, committee membership, and the Speakers Bureau
