Through art, education and therapy, the organisation aims to promote health, wellbeing, confidence and a sense of security. Its activities are adapted to each student and include drawing, painting, batik, felt making, clay, papier-mâché, printmaking, photography and IT skills.
Alongside creative work, aArtvark offers accredited courses in areas such as communication, numeracy, horticulture, computer technology and money skills. Students work towards personal goals, with achievements regularly reviewed, while developing life skills and social connections in a supportive setting. They can also take part in daily activities and help plan projects and events.
The service holds art exhibitions, giving students the opportunity to display and discuss their work with visitors. Group outings may include visits to the cinema, theatre, restaurants and other attractions. aArtvark operates Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with mainstream education classes on Wednesdays, at Caxton House in Ashford.
