Abattoir is a market and urban development organisation based in Anderlecht, Brussels, bringing together food commerce, public markets and neighbourhood projects. Its site includes FOODMET, a covered food market, and BROCANTEMET, alongside markets and facilities for wholesalers and meat and fish traders. The organisation also supports businesses supplying marinades, spices and sauces, and promotes circular-economy initiatives. Its regular public markets open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., including public holidays, while Boeremet features in its events programme.
Abattoir is developing the site as a place to live and meet as well as shop. The KOTMET project is planned to provide 29 apartments, including studios, 40 student rooms and retail space beside FOODMET and near Clemenceau metro station. Another planned project is an outdoor swimming pool on the roof of MANUFAKTURE, intended for sport, leisure and community use. Abattoir also provides property to local public services, as shown by the renovated premises it rents to Anderlecht municipality for a neighbourhood service centre.
