Abbe-Freeland

Abbe-Freeland Animal Sanctuary is a wildlife rehabilitation center in Angelica that cares for injured and orphaned beavers, porcupines, squirrels, birds, foxes, opossums, and other native animals. Since 1989, the sanctuary has helped hundreds of wild animals recover and, whenever possible, return to life in the wild. Its work can include veterinary treatment, rehabilitation, and teaching young animals the skills they need to survive when they have lost a parent. Animals that cannot safely live on their own receive lifelong care at the sanctuary.

Abbe-Freeland also introduces the public to wildlife through animals who cannot be released. Charlie, a porcupine ambassador, helps visitors see porcupines in a new light after injuries from a car accident left him unable to return to the wild. The sanctuary’s approach combines compassionate care with a focus on release whenever recovery makes it possible. Supporters can contribute through donations, explore the sanctuary’s wishlist, and get involved.
