About The Abel Prize
The Abel Prize is an international prize of mathematics awarded yearly, named after Norway's greatest mathematician, Niels Henrik Abel. Established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2002 on the occasion of the 200-year anniversary of his birth, the prize honors Abel's lasting contributions to the mathematical world. With a prize amount of 7.
5 million Norwegian Kroner, it is awarded by The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters on behalf of the Ministry of Education. The Abel Committee, comprised of five leading mathematicians worldwide, evaluates and recommends deserving winners. In addition to the prestigious award ceremony held at the Oslo University aula, the Abel Prize also promotes mathematical interest among children and youth through various initiatives like mathematics competitions and a teacher prize.
