About ABFF
The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) is a premier annual event committed to empowering Black talent in film and television. Since its inception in 1997 by founder Jeff Friday, ABFF has provided a dynamic platform for artists to showcase work that reflects the diverse narratives of people of African descent. Held every June in Miami Beach, the festival attracts over 7,000 attendees each year, featuring an engaging mix of film screenings, panel discussions, and master classes designed to foster education and collaboration within the industry.
ABFF's programming includes Hollywood premieres, independent screenings, and exclusive previews from major studios, creating a vital space for dialogue and connection among emerging and established talents. Attendees benefit from networking events, talent showcases, and community-focused activities that celebrate local culture. Recognized for its impact by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the festival continues to be a crucial force in advocating for diversity and inclusivity within Hollywood and beyond. The upcoming 29th festival event is scheduled for June 11-15, 2025.
