Ability West is a Galway-based registered charity providing comprehensive support to children and adults with complex intellectual, physical and multiple disabilities. Founded by families seeking better support for their children, the organisation has worked for more than six decades to promote independence, wellbeing and quality of life. It supports over 600 people through more than 60 centres across Galway City and County, in partnership with the Health Service Executive, and employs over 630 people.
Its services include residential support, day services and training, respite, home sharing, clinical supports, speech and language therapy, psychology, and ancillary services. The Living My Life project is also part of its support offering. Ability West is patron of four special schools: St. Joseph’s in Galway City, Tigh Nan Dooley in Carraroe, St. Oliver’s in Tuam and St. Teresa’s in Ballinasloe. Through its services, schools and family engagement, Ability West aims to help the people it supports live their best lives. The charity also welcomes volunteers, donations and corporate sponsorship to support its work.
