Abio Como

ABIO Como ODV is a volunteer association founded in Como in 1988 to make children’s hospital stays less traumatic. Part of ABIO, the Association for Children in Hospital, it supports children, adolescents and their families across the Como area, helping make hospital care more welcoming and humane.

Its volunteers offer a warm welcome, attentive listening, companionship, entertainment and opportunities to play. They provide emotional support to young patients and their parents, while working alongside healthcare staff with discretion and respect. The association champions children’s rights, dignity and individual needs, and promotes inclusive, non-discriminatory care that recognises the emotional as well as physical challenges of hospitalization.

ABIO Como also trains aspiring volunteers and invites the community to take part in events and fundraising initiatives. People can support its work through donations or Italy’s 5×1000 tax designation, helping the association contribute to more child-friendly hospital environments. Guided by generosity, civic commitment and respect for each person, ABIO Como seeks to bring greater reassurance and human connection to children and families during a difficult time.
