About Able
Able is a brand dedicated to providing access and inclusion for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities in New Zealand. With over 880,000 Kiwis facing communication challenges, Able aims to bridge the gap by offering video captioning services. Captions are designed to enhance the auditory experience by providing a written alternative, including dialogue, music, and ambient sounds, making it possible for everyone to connect, understand stories, share laughter, and enjoy shows.
Able's process involves a hybrid blend of AI technology and human skill, with highly trained linguists meticulously crafting captions for pre-recorded content. For live television, captioners re-speak the live dialogue in a noise-free environment, allowing AI technology to transcribe the words into text in real-time. Captions have numerous benefits, including facilitating inclusion, supporting language learning, improving literacy, and catering to the preferences of viewers who watch social video content without sound.
