- Supporting Safety Leadership in Alberta Mines - The Alberta Mine Safety Association (AMSA) was formed in December 1982, the principal reason for this was to look for opportunities to make mining the safest place for all Alberta mine workers to make a living. We are an organization made up of mining, quarrying and oilsands industries. The purpose of the association is to foster good relationships between the safety personnel and operating management of all mining industries in the province of Alberta. The association is principally interested in developing and/or disseminating information and material that will carry out the purpose of the association, to accomplish this AMSA will support forums for the exchange and acquisition of professional knowledge among its members. Representatives from all Mine Operators in the Province will meet on a regular basis to share ideas and determine best industry practice.

The Alberta Mine Safety Association (AMSA) supports safety excellence across Alberta’s mining industry. It brings together members and industry partners to promote mine safety, share practical knowledge, and recognize people and organizations contributing to safer workplaces. Its resources include training, guidelines and best practices, safety shares, toolbox talks and safety meetings, safety statistics, and links to occupational health and safety information. AMSA also provides information about mine safety in Alberta and Canada and offers membership services and updates.
A key focus is mine rescue. The association supports mine rescue training and competitions, where teams demonstrate the specialized skills used to respond to incidents involving trapped or injured people. Its annual competition gives members, the public, and the Province an opportunity to assess mine rescue capabilities across the industry. AMSA also celebrates safety leadership and achievement through events such as its Annual Awards Gala. Visitors can access manuals and a mine rescue package, follow news and events, and shop for branded items including mine rescue hoodies, ID cards, patches, and stickers.
