Above the Water is an independent swim school based in Newcastle upon Tyne, established in April 2016. Founded by a primary school teacher and swimming teacher, the school aims to help people of all ages and experience levels learn to swim, build confidence and stay safe in the water. Its dedicated team delivers fun, structured lessons in a supportive environment, with an emphasis on consistency, personal service and steady progress.
Teaching follows the ASA framework, with shared marking criteria used across the team to help swimmers work towards their objectives. Lessons are available in several formats: one-to-one tuition for nervous swimmers or those needing individual support, two-to-one sessions for paired learners, and group classes for four to eight swimmers, depending on ability. The school also offers supervised pool parties for children aged six and over, accommodating up to 25 swimmers and featuring games and inflatables.
A room can be hired separately for post-party food, which families provide. Certificates and badges are available for a fee
