The Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran is a research organization established in 2000 to apply modern technologies to agricultural challenges, strengthen food security, improve food health, protect natural resources and support sustainable development. With specialist staff and advanced equipment, the institute conducts research and develops technologies across agricultural biotechnology, aiming to generate knowledge and economic value and contribute to employment and agricultural self-sufficiency.

Its research and development programs cover plant propagation and health, hybrid vegetable and field-crop seeds, molecular breeding, medicinal plants, and crops adapted to climate conditions. The institute also works on biological and nano-based fertilizers and pesticides, nutritional supplements, emerging agricultural technologies, and genetically modified or gene-edited products. Its reported achievements include virus-free potato seed production, greenhouse facilities for transgenic crop research, plant-based probiotics and biocontrol products, and methods for propagating date palms.

The institute provides laboratory services and operates national reference laboratories, an innovation center, and technology-transfer activities. It also supports education and professional development through internships, work placements, and graduate and postdoctoral research opportunities.
