Abya-Yala Grant Solutions

Abya-Yala Grant Solutions, LLC is a freelance grant-writing business founded by Yvette Mendez, an artist, educator, and public administrator with extensive experience in nonprofit organizations and community advocacy. The company’s mission is to identify and connect viable funding sources with nonprofits serving artists, Black and Indigenous people of color, and LGBTQ communities. Its work is guided by a vision of supporting organizations that advance social and environmental justice, creativity, and sustainability in their communities.

Grant-writing support is intended for organizations seeking funding to further their work. Mendez brings a background in social justice and cultural and artistic expression, along with experience working with organizations including Alma de Mujer Center for Social Change and Chinati Ixtlan Cultural and Land Conservancy. She has also spent more than 25 years as an art educator in school districts across Austin, San Antonio, and Houston, Texas. A member of the Mescalero Apache tribe of Texas, she emphasizes service to Indigenous communities, other people of color, and LGBTQ communities.
