Academia Philosophica is a philosophy academy founded in 2021 by Professor Markus Rothhaar to make rigorous, professionally guided philosophical inquiry accessible beyond the constraints of traditional academic settings. It offers weekend seminars and other events for people interested in fundamental questions about knowledge, truth, human nature, moral responsibility, and society. Participants explore the ideas of influential thinkers, including Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, and Heidegger, while also engaging with contemporary debates.

The academy’s program spans theoretical philosophy and aesthetics, ethics, and questions of politics, law, and society. Topics include free will, the meaning of a good life, bioethics, artificial intelligence, environmental ethics, democracy, human rights, justice, migration, and global responsibility. Its approach goes beyond introducing philosophical theories: the academy aims to help participants learn how to philosophize for themselves.

Rothhaar brings experience in applied ethics and bioethics, and is also an honorary professor at the Hochschule Heiligenkreuz and a private lecturer at FernUniversität in Hagen
