The Académie Vétérinaire de France is a French institution that brings together veterinary expertise to advance scientific knowledge and inform public debate. Its work covers the scientific, technical, legal, historical and ethical questions connected with veterinary practice, including animal health and welfare, animals’ relationships with people and the environment, animal production, and veterinary public health. The Academy studies these subjects, promotes scientific progress and improved professional techniques, advises public authorities, and helps explain relevant issues to the public. It also fosters national and international cooperation between veterinarians and other professionals in life and health sciences.
The Academy shares its work through public sessions, conferences, reports, opinions, press releases, publications, videos and topical dossiers. Its resources address subjects such as infectious disease, COVID-19, biodiversity, animal welfare, food-chain safety, veterinary medicines and new genomic technologies. It also recognizes research and professional achievement through prizes, medals, scholarships and doctoral awards. Members, commissions and working groups contribute to this mission, while students and the wider public can access information and educational materials through its website.
