The Luiz Alca Institute – ACAUSA is a community association founded in Santos, Brazil, in 1989 to support people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. Established when Santos faced a high number of AIDS cases, the organization initially focused on distributing food baskets to people in need receiving care at Hospital Guilherme Álvaro. Today, it assists vulnerable families across several cities in the Baixada Santista region.
Its support includes food baskets, medications not provided through the public health network, and other assistance according to families’ needs. ACAUSA also promotes HIV and sexually transmitted infection prevention, sharing information about free prevention options available through Brazil’s public health system. The institute raises funds and community awareness through donations, campaigns, events, charity dinners, bazaars, and initiatives such as ACAUSA Wine.
Individuals can contribute by donating food, hygiene products, or money. Named in honor of founder Luiz Alca de Sant’Anna, the organization reports more than 30 years of work, over 18,000 food baskets distributed, and more than 200 families assisted
