About Access Birding
Access Birding is a brand that aims to improve access and inclusion for disabled birders through consulting, training, and the development of adaptive birding equipment. Founded by Freya McGregor, a disabled birder and occupational therapist, Access Birding works with birding locations such as nature centers and state parks to design and retrofit more accessible environments. They also empower program managers, staff, volunteers, and bird outing leaders to create welcoming and inclusive spaces.
Access Birding is involved in research projects focused on access, inclusion, and disabled birders and is writing a Field Guide to Accessible Birding in North America. The guide will highlight accessible trails, bird blinds, and observation platforms that provide opportunities to enjoy birding spectacles. Additionally, Access Birding offers training programs and operates a store where visitors can find adaptive birding equipment.
