About Accra Architecture Archive
The Accra Architecture Archive is dedicated to preserving and digitizing Ghana's architectural heritage through the collection of historical documents and records associated with the city planning authorities dating back to 1894. Serving as the earliest repository of architectural and administrative records from Accra's colonial era, this initiative aims to safeguard vital information about the city’s urban development and architectural practices. The archive houses documents that are crucial for the study of architecture, urban history, and genealogy, representing an irreplaceable resource for researchers and historians.
With many of these documents nearing a century old and in a precarious state, the project is both urgent and essential to prevent the loss of invaluable historical data. In addition to providing access to these digitized records, the Accra Architecture Archive engages the public through exhibitions, articles, and a blog, fostering a deeper appreciation for Accra’s rich architectural legacy and its significance in the broader context of Ghana's history
