The Association for Community Living, Inc. (ACL) is a statewide membership organization representing not-for-profit agencies across New York State. Its members provide housing and rehabilitation services to more than 50,000 people with serious and persistent psychiatric disabilities. ACL champions the community-based support that can help people pursue independent, productive, and satisfying lives. The organization is an advocate and resource for agencies and professionals; it does not provide housing or refer individuals to housing.
ACL’s work includes advocacy for investment in mental health housing programs, legislative updates, and information on government programs, regulations, compliance, and member benefits. It also offers professional development and events, including the annual ACLAIMH Conference, regional gatherings, and training for mental health residential workers. Training topics include trauma-informed approaches to de-escalation, communication, recognizing warning signs, and promoting safety. Through its news, resources, events, and advocacy campaigns, ACL connects its membership with policy information and opportunities to strengthen community mental health services in New York.
