Acorn to Oak Childcare is a community creche in Portumna, east Galway, caring for children from 3 months to 12 years. Open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for 51 weeks of the year, the centre provides full-day care across dedicated Baby, Wobbler, Toddler, Junior Montessori and Senior Montessori rooms. It first opened in September 2007 and now employs more than 20 childcare practitioners. Staff hold at least a QQI Level 5 childcare qualification, with some holding higher qualifications, including a degree in Early Years Care and Education.
The centre’s curriculum aims to help children become confident and capable learners through activities suited to their age and stage. Experiences include sensory and outdoor play, stories, music, movement, and arts and crafts. For babies, care includes individual attention, a separate monitored sleep room and opportunities to explore through play. Acorn to Oak also offers the ECCE scheme for children who meet the stated age criteria.
