About ACT for the Disappeared
Act for the Disappeared (ACT) is a Lebanese human rights association founded in 2010. With a mission to clarify the fate of the disappeared and missing in Lebanon, ACT strives to foster a sustainable reconciliation process and prevent the recurrence of violence in the country. Their dedicated team, consisting of a Director, two Project Managers, a Data Analyst, a Researcher, 6 Local Accompaniers, and a Financial and Administration Officer, works tirelessly to bring justice and closure to the families of the missing.
ACT collaborates closely with the Committee of the Families of the Kidnapped and Disappeared in Lebanon in lobbying for a national commission to investigate the fate of the missing. They also engage with the public and civil society through campaigns, TV spots, films, publications, and other informative materials to shed light on the cause and support the right to knowledge for affected families. Additionally, ACT is involved in significant projects, including accompanying families with the ICRC, investigating the fate of the missing, and promoting intercommunity dialogues for memorialization.
As an esteemed member of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, ACT has established partnerships with renowned organizations such as the ICTJ, EAAF, Memorial Abierta, and Hafiza Merkezi. By collaborating with various stakeholders and employing innovative approaches, ACT plays a vital role in advocating for human rights and truth and reconciliation processes
