Action for Older Persons

Action for Older Persons (AOP) is a private, nonprofit United Way member agency founded in 1967 to improve the quality of life of older adults and their families. Based in Endicott, New York, AOP serves people across Broome, Delaware, Chenango, Cortland, Otsego, and Tioga counties. Its staff and volunteers reach more than 3,000 seniors each year through counseling, education, and advocacy, offering unbiased information and personalized guidance to help older adults make informed decisions.

AOP’s services include health insurance information and counseling through HIICAP, facilitated enrollment for aged, blind, and disabled individuals, and advanced planning for end of life. Its safety and protection programs address elder abuse, while the Long-Term Care Ombudsman and Independent Consumer Advocacy Network provide advocacy for people receiving long-term care. The organization also offers seminars, resources, and an online Elder Services Guide to help people find services in Broome County. Donations support these programs and community education, and volunteers can contribute to AOP’s work.
